AIIMS Delhi first in country to announce launch of face transplant programme

The Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Burns Surgery at AIIMS has initiated the process of setting up a registry of patients having severe facial deformity along with the loss of vital functions of the face like breathing, mouth opening and blinking and have not benefited despite multiple surgical procedures.

1 in 3 faculty posts vacant across AIIMS; over 17,000 Non-Faculty Posts Also Unfilled

The data show substantial faculty shortages nationwide. At AIIMS New Delhi, the country’s flagship institute, 446 of 1,306 sanctioned faculty posts are vacant. Jodhpur has 184 vacancies, Mangalagiri 138, Nagpur 135, Kalyani 134 and Rishikesh 126.
